How to use GIF Maker

  1. 1. Upload your video. MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, or M4V — up to 500 MB.
  2. 2. Pick start and length. Drag the start slider to scrub the source. Set duration up to 15 seconds.
  3. 3. Tune FPS and size. Higher FPS = smoother but larger. 12 fps and 480px wide is a good default.
  4. 4. Generate & download. Our server encodes a high-quality two-pass GIF in seconds.

FAQ

Why is the maximum length 15 seconds?

Beyond ~15 seconds, GIF files get huge (often >50 MB) and look worse than just sharing a video. For long clips, use MP4 or WebM instead.

What's the file size limit on the upload?

500 MB. Most short videos are way under this. If you have a long source, trim it locally first or wait for our upcoming Video Trimmer.

Where is my file processed?

On our EU server. The file is held only as long as needed and is auto-deleted within 1 hour. We don't analyse, share, or store your videos.

Why does my GIF look great here but pixelated elsewhere?

We use ffmpeg's two-pass palette algorithm — best quality possible from a 256-colour format. Some chat apps re-compress GIFs you upload, lowering quality further. Not much we can do about that.

Can I add captions / text on top?

Not yet. Add to roadmap: text overlay with font, size, colour, and position.

Does this work on iPhone?

Yes — uploads work in mobile Safari just fine. Big files can be slow over mobile networks; use Wi-Fi for anything above ~50 MB.
