FAQ

What is HEIC?

HEIC is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11. It produces smaller files at the same quality as JPG, but most non-Apple software (Windows, browsers, web uploaders) can't read it directly.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using a WASM decoder. Your photos never leave your device.

Why is the first conversion slower?

We download the HEIC decoder (~1 MB) on demand the first time. After that, every conversion is fast.

Will the photo lose quality?

Slightly, if you pick JPG (it's a lossy format). Use the quality slider to control the trade-off, or pick PNG for lossless conversion (larger files).

Does this preserve EXIF data?

No — orientation is baked into the rotated pixels but other metadata (camera, GPS, date) is dropped. Often desirable for privacy.
