FAQ

Are the conversions exact?

For most units, yes. Temperature uses the standard formulas. Linear units use widely accepted conversion factors. Tiny floating-point rounding is unavoidable.

Is KB 1000 or 1024 bytes?

We use binary (1 KB = 1024 bytes) because that's what operating systems and developers typically mean. For SI/decimal (1 kB = 1000 bytes), multiply accordingly.

Why is 'year' 365.25 days?

That's the Julian year, which accounts for leap years. It's the standard used in astronomy and many scientific contexts.

Can I convert between categories?

No — you can only convert within the same category (e.g. length to length). Cross-category conversions don't have a meaningful relationship.

Is the US gallon the same as the UK gallon?

No. We use the US gallon (3.785 L). The Imperial (UK) gallon is about 4.546 L.
